Log Lab - Brewing Cafe at Daegu, South Korea

Do you enjoy drip coffee? I prefer it over an Americano because of its clear and clean texture. For those who share my taste, I'd like to introduce Log Lab, a café specializing in hand-drip coffee.

The moment you open the door, it feels like stepping into an oak barrel where whiskey is maturing. The walls, constructed from fine wooden planks, and the plants occupying the center of the café seem to emanate the fragrance of a tropical rainforest. The glass wall at the entrance isn't a single pane of glass but rather fixed casement doors. The seams are well-sealed, so there are no drafts. However, it's best to be cautious as they might wobble slightly if you lean against them.

Log Lab is located behind the bus stop across from the 2.28 Memorial Central Park in Dongseong-ro, Daegu, in a building that once housed a select shop. Being directly behind the bus stop, it has no separate parking space. However, arriving by bus drops you right at the front, and it's less than a 10-minute walk from Jungangno Station. It might be more convenient to take public transportation than to deal with the headache of parking in the bustling heart of Dongseong-ro.

You won't find an espresso machine at Log Lab. All coffee is prepared exclusively through hand-dripping. They use beans from Werk Roasters in Busan, and as a drip specialist, they offer a diverse lineup of beans. In addition to single-origin options, they also have blends and decaffeinated beans. For latte lovers, a café au lait made with brewed coffee is also available.

They use paper takeaway cups for all customers, whether you're staying in or taking out. On hot days, I often prefer a cold drink, and while pretty mugs are nice, I sometimes prefer these paper cups because I dislike the condensation that forms on the surface.

Seating is primarily arranged for two people. As the space is filled with personally sourced vintage furniture, the design is unique. If your party has three or more people, they will arrange a separate seating area for you by combining two tables.

Given its proximity to the road, I was concerned about noise from cars and the outside, but thankfully, the café is well soundproofed. The use of wood prevents sounds from echoing loudly, so you can enjoy the good music without having to shout to converse with the person next to you. If you're looking for a quiet café in Daegu, Log Lab would be an excellent choice.

The owner mentioned they are from Gyeongnam Province and started the café because it was something they had always wanted to do before it was too late. As someone who has often hesitated on things I've wanted to do, I find the sight of someone who has taken on such a challenge quite admirable.

Hand-dripping is a method that requires considerable time and effort. In return, it offers the charm of a slow and calm experience. A cup of coffee at Log Lab embodies that unhurried time. What does your cup of coffee hold today?
