Ryuis Coffee Bar - Cafe/Busan/Korea
It wasn't too big or too small, just the right size. The
coffee and booze revolved around the books, coming and going, day and night,
and one day it might be time for drinks. People are often drawn to the comfort
that comes from familiarity, and he was very similar to me in his love of books
and old songs.
I was surprised it was on the fifth floor of a building. As
I walked through the noisy center of Nampo-dong and into a dark alley, a small
sign welcomed me, saying it was on the fifth floor. In a world where even the
second floor is considered inaccessible, I was surprised to find a place three
floors higher.
It didn't take long to realize that being on the fifth
floor was a plus. As soon as you step off the elevator and into the building,
the vibe around you changes right away. All the noise just disappears, and it's
all quiet and calm. Instead of obnoxious shouting, there's a murmur of
conversation in the background. Choosing the top floor was a smart move. No one
wants to be bothered with loud conversations on a day they're supposed to be
unwinding.
I heard that every Thursday is Book Thursday. I saw a lot of books all over the cafe, so I asked, and they told me there was an event like that. It's not a book club, but more of a get-together for people who love reading and want to spend some time thinking about their books. If I lived in Nampo, I would've loved to come here once, but then I realized I had to get back to Daegu.
Of course, I knew I'd be drinking drip coffee. He's right.
I usually like drip. It's just that lately I've been enjoying heavier lattes as
the weather has gotten colder. The person who asked me to wait because they
didn't like the latte art. I've noticed this in conversations, but he's a
weirdo. It's a good thing he's so into his coffee, because it makes him more
likable.
It was like stepping into a 30-year-old oak whiskey barrel.
Surrounded by walls painted the perfect shade of brown—not too light, not too
dark. The coffee and whiskey aromas hung in the air. It's like the colors and
aromas of a book or a conversation. I'd order a coffee on the rocks, even if
it's coffee instead of whiskey.
